The Arts House Trust
Paid summer internship at a leading Auckland public art gallery, offering hands-on curatorial, collection care, and gallery experience.
Now in its tenth year, The Arts House Trust (AHT) Summer Internship Programme is a paid, fixed-term, part-time opportunity running from late November 2026 to February 2027. Working approximately 10–24 hours per week (including evenings and weekends), interns gain real, hands-on experience across all aspects of running a leading public art gallery and private collection at the Pah Homestead in Auckland.
This is a training role designed for students or recent graduates curious about careers in the visual arts — you don't need to meet every criterion, just come with enthusiasm and a willingness to learn.
Interns can expect to get stuck into a wide range of tasks: curating and presenting displays using works from the AHT Collection, front-of-house and gallery attendant duties, events and gallery shop support, artwork handling and collection care, gallery installation and prep work, database and archive administration, writing interpretive texts for collection works, assisting with public programmes like Kids Art Club and Whānau Day, and contributing to marketing and design as needed.
The highlight of the programme is the opportunity to develop and present a group exhibition with fellow interns at AHT Gallery at the Pah Homestead in October 2027 — either displaying your own artwork or curating works from the AHT Collection.
The ideal candidate will have a relevant tertiary qualification or demonstrated commitment to fine arts, art history, or curatorial practice, along with strong communication skills, a positive attitude, and an appreciation for diverse audiences. Experience in a museum or gallery setting, or with art research and writing, is a bonus.
To apply, send your CV, a brief cover letter, and a short exhibition proposal for the 2027 group intern exhibition to Tasha at artloans@artshousetrust.co.nz. Applications close 9am, 30 October 2026.
