Enjoy Contemporary Art Space
Six-week live/work residency at the historic Rita Angus Cottage in Thorndon, Wellington, for established Aotearoa-based artists.
Enjoy Contemporary Art Space is inviting Expressions of Interest for the 2027 Summer Residency at the Rita Angus Cottage — a six-week live/work residency running from late January to early March in Thorndon, Te Whanganui-a-Tara Wellington.
This residency offers a single practitioner the time, space and support to develop an ambitious project within one of Aotearoa's most storied artistic environments. The cottage was home to painter Rita Angus from 1955 until her death in 1970, and is listed as a Category 1 historic place with Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga. It provides comfortable living quarters alongside studio and workspace, with full household amenities, power and wifi.
Enjoy is looking for proposals that are experimental, speculative, materially or conceptually ambitious and critically engaged. Artists might respond to the histories, environment or cultural significance of the cottage — but a direct dialogue with Rita Angus's own artwork is not required. The residency is open to Aotearoa-based artists who are several years post-tertiary study or already established in their practice.
