New Zealand Glassworks Te Whare Tūhua o Te Ao (NZG), supported by Creative New Zealand, is offering its 2027 Internship Programme — a paid, intensive six-month opportunity for two emerging glass artists based in Whanganui.
Running from 27 April to 5 November 2027, the programme consists of 27 contact weeks (440 hours total) and pays interns $30 per hour. It's structured to give you a real grounding in both the craft and the business of glass:
Interns will have full access to NZG's coldworking facilities and receive a stipend for glass colour.
Who can apply?
The programme is open to NZ citizens and permanent residents with fewer than 10 years of professional practice and some prior hot-glass experience. A tertiary qualification in glass is not required — experience through workshops, mentorships, studio practice, or vocational training all counts. Two interns will be selected by a panel of artists, educators, and NZG management.
