The Arts Village
Shared studio residency in Rotorua offering studio space, materials, and creative freedom across December 2026 and January 2027.
The Arts Village in Rotorua is inviting applications for its Open Studios Artist Residency 2026–2027, running from December 2026 to January 2027. At least four artists will be selected to participate in this shared studio residency, which has been running in various forms since 2011 and has supported 66 artists over 15 years.
Residents receive access to shared studio space and a range of materials, along with the time and freedom to develop a creative project of their choosing. The residency is open to innovative artists across all disciplines who have exciting project ideas — particularly proposals that enrich both the artist's own practice and the wider Rotorua community.
The Arts Village is Rotorua's community arts hub, home to three galleries, a pottery studio, a co-op art shop, and a café. It hosts exhibitions, workshops, community events, artisan markets, and more. The vision is for Rotorua to be a vibrant, creative community where art makes life good.
An artist residency offers dedicated time and space to focus on creative practice away from everyday demands — a chance to experiment, develop new work, explore ideas, and connect with fellow artists and the community in a supportive environment.
