Three-month studio residency at Te Tuhi in Auckland for an emerging visual artist or collective, with a $15,000 stipend and curatorial mentorship.
The Iris Fisher Artist Studio Residency is a three-month studio residency at Te Tuhi in Pakuranga, Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland, open to emerging visual artists or collectives based in Aotearoa New Zealand.
The residency offers a shared 80m² studio space within Te Tuhi's gallery building, a total stipend of $15,000 (paid as $5,000 per month), mentorship and curatorial support from Te Tuhi's team, and access to workshop resources by arrangement. Studio access is available seven days a week, 9am–5pm, with out-of-hours access by arrangement.
This residency is focused on practice development — artists are not required to produce a final work or exhibition. The aim is simply to give emerging artists dedicated time and space to experiment, explore, and grow.
To be eligible, applicants must be New Zealand citizens or residents, be emerging artists or collectives who have not yet had a significant solo show, and be able to commit at least 25 hours per week in the studio. Accommodation is not provided, but artists from outside Auckland are welcome to apply if they can arrange their own accommodation for the residency period.
Applications should be submitted as a single PDF (or in audio/visual formats) to exhibitions@tetuhi.art by 9am on Monday 6 July 2026. Applications should include a short bio, responses to key questions about your proposed residency activity, 2–3 work samples, and a visual arts CV with two referee contacts.
Applications are assessed on artistic ambition, artistic impact, and feasibility.
The Iris Fisher Artist Studio Residency is supported by the Lou and Iris Fisher Charitable Trust, continuing a legacy of supporting emerging artists in Aotearoa that began with the Iris Fisher Art Awards in 1981.
