International residency programme at Treasure Hill Artist Village, Taipei, open to artists, curators and cultural workers worldwide for 8–12 week stays in 2027.
AIR Taipei is an annual international artist residency programme based at Treasure Hill Artist Village (THAV), a historic hillside settlement beside the Xindian River in Taipei City. Run by the Taipei Culture Foundation and supervised by the Department of Cultural Affairs, Taipei City Government, the programme brings together artists, curators, researchers and cultural practitioners from around the world to live, create and connect in one of Taipei's most distinctive creative communities.
There are four residency categories to choose from — you can only apply for one:
1. International Residency — Open to non-Taiwanese citizens with at least three years of professional creative experience. Residencies run for 8–12 weeks across four quarterly intakes (March–May, June–August, September–November, or December 2027–February 2028). Participants receive a free studio with accommodation and administrative support. You cover your own travel, living costs, visa and insurance. Up to 20 places are available.
2. Domestic Residency — For Taiwanese citizens and practitioners with at least three years of experience. Residencies are 12 weeks long across the same quarterly intakes. Participants receive a free studio with accommodation plus a creative grant of NT$72,000 (paid in two instalments, subject to tax deductions). Four places are available per cycle.
3. Overseas Residency Visit — For Taiwanese citizens wanting to undertake a residency at one of AIR Taipei's international partner institutions (details in Appendix A). Individual applications only. Participants receive free accommodation and studio at the host institution, an economy return airfare from Taiwan, and a creative grant of NT$100,000. A residency report is required on completion.
4. Treasure Hill Artist Village x Puppetry Art Center of Taipei Project Residency — Open to international artists (non-Taiwanese) working in puppetry or object theatre. The residency runs August–October 2027, culminating in a public performance at the Taipei Puppetry Festival on 30 October 2027. Participants receive a creative subsidy of NT$20,000, shared workspaces (rehearsal rooms and puppet-making workshops), and free studio accommodation at THAV.
All applicants must have at least three years of professional creative experience. Current students are not eligible unless enrolled in a master's or doctoral programme. Applicants who received grants from the department between 2024 and 2026 are not eligible.
Applications are submitted online only via https://air-artistvillage.org.tw/ and must be completed by 11:59 AM Taipei time on 30 June 2026. Results for most categories will be announced by end of September 2026.
