About

Multidisciplinary artist residency in Port Townsend, Washington, offering three tracks for visual artists, writers, performers and interdisciplinary creatives.

Centrum Foundation's 2027 Residency Open Call invites artists, writers, performers, curators, and interdisciplinary creatives to apply for one of three residency programmes at their base in Port Townsend, Washington.

Three Residency Tracks:

  • Self-Directed Residency – 55–60 spots. Open to international and US-based practitioners across all disciplines. Offers unstructured time and space to pursue your own creative agenda.
  • Emerging Artist Residency – 6 spots. Restricted to artists based in the Pacific Northwest (Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, or British Columbia). Designed to support early-career practitioners in deepening their practice.
  • In the Making Residency – 3–5 spots. A smaller, more focused cohort for artists at a significant turning point in their practice.

All tracks are free to apply and participate. Residencies take place during 2027 and prioritise reflection, experimentation, and peer exchange over production pressure. You'll join a diverse cohort working across visual arts, writing, curatorial practice, performance, dance, music, and socially engaged work.

What you'll need to apply:

  • Work samples or portfolio
  • Online portfolio link (if available)
  • A short statement (one paragraph) on what the residency would mean for your practice
  • Demographic information for equity purposes
  • Description of workspace or accommodation needs
  • Your preferred programme track(s)

Selection is juried by alumni, professional artists, writers, and curators. The process prioritises artistic merit, diversity of practice, and engagement with contemporary cultural and social issues. Individual feedback is not provided due to application volume.

Centrum encourages early submission – late applications are not accepted under any circumstances.
