Institut Français / Cité Internationale des Arts
Live-in studio residency in Paris for international artists and cultural professionals, lasting 3, 6 or 9 months with a monthly grant.
The Institut Français x Cité Internationale des Arts Residency Programme offers nearly 70 artists and cultural professionals from around the world the opportunity to live and work in Paris for 3, 6 or 9 months. Residents are hosted in furnished live-in studios at the Marais site of Cité internationale des arts, each with a private workspace, sleeping area and bathroom.
The programme is open to all nationalities and artistic disciplines — from visual arts, photography, music and theatre to architecture, digital creation, literature, fashion and gastronomy. There is no age limit.
Important: artists cannot apply directly. Applications must be submitted by a partner organisation (such as a French Institute, French Alliance, gallery, museum, arts centre or similar cultural body), which is responsible for providing financial and professional support. The partner organisation commits to paying the resident a grant of at least €1,100 per month, covering international travel costs, and arranging insurance.
The French Institute covers the cost of the live-in studio. Residents may also access shared facilities including printmaking, screen-printing and ceramics workshops, rehearsal studios, and exhibition spaces (fees apply).
To be eligible, applicants must have been living outside France for at least five years, be available for the full residency period between April 2027 and April 2028, and have professional proficiency in French or English.
Priority is given to projects involving a Paris-region (Île-de-France) partner organisation. The selection committee values inclusivity, disciplinary and geographical diversity, and gender balance.
