A 2–3 week funded residency in Bendigo, Australia for early-career artists from Aotearoa, with accommodation, studio, and a travel allowance included.
This residency is a two-to-three week international exchange opportunity for an early-career artist based in Aotearoa New Zealand, facilitated through a partnership between La Trobe Art Institute (LAI) in Bendigo and Artspace Aotearoa in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland.
The residency takes place during lawan and boyn — a Djaara season of harvest, growth, and new beginnings — on Dja Dja Wurrung Country in Regional Victoria, Australia. It's designed for artists interested in connecting with place, and in practices of transition and mutuality between different sites and contexts.
Rather than focusing on production outcomes, this is a residency built around exchange. You'll share spaces, meals, and conversations with the LAI team, engaging critically with the institution, its collections, histories, geographies, and communities. The emphasis is on learning, relationship-building, and being present — without pressure to produce finished work.
Indigenous artists and artists working in community are strongly encouraged to apply.
