Te Herenga Waka – Victoria University of Wellington
A 4-month paid research and teaching fellowship for emerging scholars in Aotearoa New Zealand art history, based at Victoria University of Wellington.
The Oroya and Melvin Day Fellowship in New Zealand Art History is a 4-month full-time research and teaching position based at Te Kura Kōmanawa – School of Arts and Media at Te Herenga Waka – Victoria University of Wellington. Funded by the Oroya and Melvin Day Trust, the fellowship runs over the summer trimester from November 2026 to February 2027.
Designed for emerging or early-career scholars, the fellowship offers an opportunity to advance specialist research in New Zealand art history while developing and delivering a special-topic course to undergraduate students. The successful Fellow will be expected to work towards disseminating their research through scholarly publication and/or exhibition.
To be eligible, you'll need a master's degree in art history or a relevant discipline, a strong knowledge of New Zealand art history, and some experience in tutoring, teaching, or public engagement in a gallery or museum setting (such as talks, workshops, or wānanga). You should be intending to develop a further career as an art writer, curator, or art historian.
