Creative New Zealand
Funding up to $25,000 for NZ artists, practitioners and organisations to participate in international opportunities.
The International Engagement Fund supports New Zealand artists, practitioners, and arts organisations to take part in meaningful international opportunities that would otherwise be out of reach financially.
You can apply for up to $25,000 to cover costs such as international travel and freight, marketing and promotion, and hosting international presenters to view New Zealand work offshore.
Who can apply
This fund is open to New Zealand citizens or permanent residents (individual artists and practitioners), New Zealand-based arts organisations and groups, and international presenters, cultural agencies, and arts organisations who have a confirmed opportunity for New Zealand artists.
Applicants seeking more than $5,000 must have a confirmed offer or invitation to participate in an international opportunity, a current international strategy, and confirmation that other parties are contributing to costs — including fair payment for the artists involved.
How to apply
Applications are a two-stage process. First, you submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) outlining the opportunity, the amount requested, and why the timing is important (up to 2,000 words). Creative New Zealand staff review EOIs and invite eligible applicants to submit a full application with supporting details including budget, strategic documents, and information about the opportunity's benefits.

Note: Results may be notified sooner for requests up to $5,000.
Assessment criteria
Applications are assessed on whether the opportunity allows you to share knowledge and skills, present impactful work, or deepen international audiences' appreciation of New Zealand arts; whether it supports your international goals; whether the timing is crucial; and whether outcomes are achievable and measurable.
Funding cannot be used for activities that begin before the funding decision is notified, and the funded activity must start within six months of notification. AI tools may be used to help prepare your application — Creative New Zealand has published guidance on this, including considerations around intellectual property, data privacy, and cultural sensitivity for Māori and Pacific arts.
