Font Tauranga Public Art Trust
Expressions of interest open for a new public sculpture in Tauranga's Northern Quarter, with a total budget of $150,000 NZD.
Font Tauranga Public Art Trust is calling for expressions of interest from artists to create a new public sculpture for Tauranga's Northern Quarter.
The Trust was established by a group of locals passionate about making Tauranga a more vibrant and engaging city. Their goal is to commission and gift a significant body of public art to the Tauranga city centre over the next decade. Previous projects include "Rauhea" by Peata Larkin (unveiled November 2024) and "Common Unity" by Paul Darragh (due late 2026/early 2027). This Northern Quarter sculpture will be their third commission.
The Site
The proposed artwork will be located between the Northern Quarter offices and conference venue and the soon-to-open Rydges Hotel — currently a garden box beside a staircase linking Harington St and Hamilton St.
Timeline
The artwork is intended to launch in Q4 2027, ahead of the new hotel opening in 2028.
Budget
To apply, download the full information pack from font.nz and email your expression of interest to hello@font.nz. Applications close 25 September 2026 at 11:59pm.
