MEANWHILE
A writing residency in Wellington for emerging art writers to contribute texts across three exhibitions over approximately three months.
MEANWHILE is offering three art writing residencies for 2027, inviting emerging and experimental writers with independent practices to become a core part of the gallery's exhibition programme.
Each resident will work closely with MEANWHILE and its exhibiting artists across three exhibitions, contributing original writing to accompany the shows. The residency runs over an estimated three months, and at its conclusion residents are offered the opportunity to present their own work in MEANWHILE's window space — or to propose an alternative project for the gallery to support. Throughout the programme, residents receive mentorship and support from the gallery and selected mentors to help develop their practice.
The residency is off-site (MEANWHILE is based within a commercial building and does not offer live-in accommodation), though artist studios are available and the gallery is happy to discuss individual space needs. All applicants must be based in Te Whanganui-a-Tara Wellington.
Residents receive a minimum stipend of $900 NZD for the duration of the residency, with the possibility of this increasing if additional funding becomes available.
