Platform Dalí — powered by the Gala-Salvador Dalí Foundation — is launching its inaugural Open Call for Residencies for 2027, inviting artists of any nationality and discipline to undertake a year-long research and creation residency at one of five leading Barcelona scientific institutions.
The theme guiding this first annual programme is 'What is real?' — a question rooted in Dalí's own belief that reality is never simply given, but continuously shaped by perception, imagination and interpretation. Artists are invited to explore how art and science together construct, mediate and interpret the real: from what lies beyond direct perception, to invisible structures of life and matter, to the thresholds where illusion and simulation meet the hyperreal.
Partner scientific institutions:
Five residents will be selected — one per institution — through a competitive open call. No prior experience working in scientific environments is required; curiosity and openness to dialogue are valued over formal scientific training.
Residency structure (12 months total):
1. Introductory visit (up to 3 days): Meet the host institution and connect with Barcelona's artistic and scientific communities.
2. On-site residency (up to 45 days): Engage with researchers, visit laboratories, attend presentations, and participate in Platform Dalí activities.
3. Research development and artistic production (~10 months): Continue dialogue remotely, submit a new artwork proposal within six months, then move into production. The resulting work will be exhibited by Platform Dalí no later than 2029.

Eligibility:
Artists of any nationality and discipline are welcome to apply. You must demonstrate at least eight years of professional artistic practice and show genuine interest in the relationship between art, science and technology. Applications may be submitted individually or as a collective (maximum two members may attend the on-site residency phases). Applications focused solely on academic or theoretical research without a clear artistic dimension are not eligible.
