About
A Swiss residency for international artists and designers to collaborate with leading textile companies and institutions in Eastern Switzerland.
TaDA – Textile and Design Alliance invites artists, designers, architects, writers, and performing arts practitioners from around the world to apply for a three-month work residency in Eastern Switzerland in 2027.
Two residency periods are available
- April to June 2027
- September to November 2027
Six residents are selected each year to develop new projects in collaboration with a network of around 12 leading Swiss textile companies and cultural institutions. The programme is especially suited to practitioners with a strong interest in textile production, textile culture, and sustainability — whether that manifests in experimental art, applied design, or interdisciplinary research.
What you'll receive:
- A private room in a shared apartment in Arbon, close to Lake Constance
- Shared workspace in the historic Saurer AG textile and engine factory (a 3-minute walk away)
- Travel costs covered
- A contribution to living expenses
- Access to the knowledge, technology, and infrastructure of approximately 12 partner companies and organisations
- Individual professional mentorship from textile designer Martin Leuthold, the TaDA team, and external specialists as needed
Who should apply:
This residency welcomes creative professionals from all disciplines who can demonstrate a genuine connection to the textile industry. Basic technical knowledge of textile production is an advantage, and projects with a pronounced experimental approach are particularly encouraged. Your project outline must specifically reference potential collaborations with TaDA partner companies.
Application requirements (submitted as PDF via the online form):
- CV
- Portfolio with a focus on the last five years, explaining your connection to textiles
- Project outline (max two A4 pages) including at least four images, with clear reference to TaDA partner collaboration and scaling opportunities
- Letter of recommendation (max one A4 page) from a research institution, company, employer, or fellow artist
Good knowledge of English or German is required. Results will be announced in early November 2026.
