EOI for exhibition slots at Te Ara Toi Gallery in Wellington — one for the general 2027–28 programme, one for Matariki/Puanga 2027 or 2028.
Te Ara Toi Gallery at Toi Aro Arts Centre in Te Aro, Wellington, is seeking Expressions of Interest for two distinct exhibition opportunities.
1. General Exhibitions (March 2027 – June 2028)
Deadline: 9am Monday, 2 November 2026
Te Ara Toi sits between Te Waimapihi and Moturoa Streams, on land where the whenua once met the waters of Te Whanganui-a-Tara. The gallery is shaped by a commitment to Te Taiao, connection with Mana Whenua, and the creative communities of the city.
For the 2027 exhibition programme, the gallery is looking for artists whose practices are bold, collaborative, and deeply connected to people and place. There's a particular interest in proposals that foster meaningful exchange across generations — emerging artists seeking mentorship, established artists ready to share knowledge, and creative partnerships grounded in relationship and reciprocity. The gallery's moveable walls and adaptable layout support a wide range of approaches, from participatory works to convention-challenging proposals.
2. Matariki/Puanga Exhibitions (2027 or 2028)
Deadline: 9am Monday, 2 November 2026
For the first time, Toi Aro Arts Centre is specifically calling for EOIs for its Matariki exhibition slots. Exhibitions must reflect the national Matariki kaupapa with intentional engagement with Mana Whenua. While the annual national kaupapa themes may not yet be publicly available, strong applicants will demonstrate an understanding of where to find this guidance or how to explore Matariki themes meaningfully.
What the successful applicant receives:
Both opportunities are open to artists at any career stage. Applications require a written proposal and supporting material uploaded separately.
